Dear Gurdip Singh ji
SSA
After going through the information available at your website, I am greatly impressed by the efforts of the council to connect Sikligars, Vanjaras, Satnamis etc living below the poverty line to the main stream of Sikhism. May Waheguru bless all of you so that you are able to do this sewa and thereby serve the cause of Sikhism.
There is one suggestion that in areas where you are active please get the census of various tribes/communities who could be linked with Sikhism and they could be shown as Sikhs in Government records. Due to the neglect of these NanakPanthis or followers of Guru Hargobind ji or Guru Gobind Singh ji, the percentage of population of Sikhs to the total population of the country is less than 2% in accordance with census of 2011. If we could help in correcting the Government records so that they are declared as Sikhs then they will be entitled to the benefits available under Minority Schemes of the Central Government launched by Dr. Manmohan Singh when he was the Prime Minister of our Country. In addition to the scholarships for the students the members of the minority groups can get loans from the bank for becoming the self employed by establishing small businesses. As the old businesses of manufacturing knives etc by Sikligars and Vanjaras cannot face the competition for the products manufactured in India or imported from China, a special effort is required to ensuring their skills development in different fields which will make them employable or start small businesses. Benefit can be taken of the present schemes or skills development launched by Modi Government.
A few bright students could be sent to Riarki college at Tughalwala, Distt Gurdaspur where S. Swaran Singh Virk is providing more or less free education to 3500 students. The school is for boys and girls but the college is only for the girls. In that institutions no student tells a lie and nobody copies even in the absence of Supervisors in the examination hall. Although S. Swaran Singh is Principal, the student council can overrule his instructions if they consider not in the interest of the institution. The institution has got its own farm and dairy farm and they don’t take donations from the Government and from the Public. The results are excellent. The hostel facility is available. The meals are prepared by the girls studying in the college. The model of education is such that 3rd year student teaches, 2nd year student teaches 1st year and so on. There are only 5 teachers in the college. Group of two students is made – one of them is very bright who helps the second to come to his/her level. I have not found such an institution in India and many TV channels have given special report about its functioning. Whenever you come to India, do visit that Institute because that may give Ideas about the manner in which Sikligar and Vanjaras may be uplifted in other states.
Mr. Salman Amin Khan of USA is running Khan Academy which provides free online education in Mathematics and Science Subjects all over the world, recently he was in India and announced that his academy intends to provide free education online to 450 million Indian students. Further Tata Trust has signed a collaboration agreement with Khan Academy so that free education could be provided in various languages spoken in different parts of the country. I have also written a letter to Mr. Khan that videos and Exercises for Mathematics in accordance with NCERT syllabus may also be provided in Punjabi. It was further pointed out that with the help of software developed by Punjabi University Patiala the script of Punjabi language can be changed to Gurmukhi to Shahmukhi and vice versa and thus the free education in Punjabi provided by Khan Academy would be available to Punjabi’s living on the both sides of the border. This step will improve Indo-Pakistani relations also. It is suggested that in 5+2 Gurdwaras established by your council could be utilized for teaching Mathematics and Science Subjects online with the help of a teacher. In the states where Hindi is the spoken language the videos and exercises according to NCERT syllabus are already available online in Hindi on Khan Academy’s website.
May Waheguru’s blessings be on the persons associated with your Council.
With Regards
